NAB Demo this year with some great info about PVP: ĭisclaimer, I used to work there. Recommended reading, primarily Brad's replies, in these forum threads: We'll be using two iMac Pros as the primary devices to drive the show. I think we're at 5 4K outputs right now because of the content and screens. We're going to be using several Blackmagic Teranex AV units to output 4k quad-link content for the Draft this year. It's fine if you're extremely scripted or triggering the same content on a regular basis, but that's not how I work. Usually I need quick access to a ton of content and an easy way to move it around between playlists or into new playlists. I hate the UI for it because I don't work in a linear form on shows. We could reproduce it with nothing more than Finder being open. Luckily we were already planning on using Stream Decks to control everything, so we didn't have to touch the mouse. We ran into it last year at the NFL Draft. I think it's an HDCP issue, so it may not always be a problem. There is a bug with the iMac Pro that causes the entire UI and outputs to stutter when you move the mouse under certain conditions. If you're looking at needing to do 4k more often, an iMac Pro would be better, but they also have some issues inherent to the hardware, unfortunately. If you go that route, max it out so that you get the best performance out of the mini. To answer the technical side, yes, the Mac mini should be fine for multiple 1080 outputs, but not multiple 4k outputs. Any other similar software that may work for this? A lot of times we get content changes at the last minute. Right now we have all Windows machines, I did look at Resolume, but it seems less user friendly and I'm not a big fan of having to re-encode media to their codec. ![]() It looks like PVP 3 should be able to handle both those scenarios. Other times it may be a large wall where I need to play a single large video spanning across 2 4K outputs. Sometimes I'm driving multiple LED walls so it would make sense to drive multiple walls off a single 4K processor. I do a lot of work with LED walls, generally content is just a video loop. Is the new MacMini powerful enough for PVP 3 to play back 4 1080p or under video clips simultaneously? Also can it play back a 7680 x 2160 video across 2 outputs without tearing or stuttering? What configuration processor/RAM would you recommend? I'm looking to possibly get a Mac and PVP 3 for playback.
